1 Research Objectives This study aims to assess the association and risk factors of malaria infection on lipid profile levels, specifically total cholesterol and triglycerides, among Sudanese patients in Eldabba City. It seeks to compare lipid levels between malaria-infected patients and healthy controls, and to determine the relationship between parasite species, parasite density, and alterations in lipid parameters, thereby generating baseline data for Northern Sudan. 2Methodology A case–control pilot study will be conducted involving 100 participants (50 malaria-positive cases and 50 malaria-negative controls). Malaria diagnosis will be confirmed using microscopy or rapid diagnostic tests. Fasting blood samples will be collected to measure serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels using standard enzymatic methods. Data will be analyzed using SPSS, applying appropriate statistical tests to compare groups and assess correlations, with significance set at p < 0.05. 3 Expected Results Malaria-infected patients are expected to show significantly lower total cholesterol levels and higher triglyceride levels compared to controls. These lipid alterations are anticipated to correlate with parasite density and species, supporting the potential role of lipid profiles as biochemical markers of malaria severity and providing foundational data for future research and clinical application in Sudan.

Participants’ confidentiality will be strictly maintained. Each participant will be assigned a unique code, and no personal identifiers will be recorded. All data will be securely stored and accessed only by the research team, and results will be reported in aggregate form for research purposes only.
The study involves minimal risk to participants. Possible physical risk is limited to mild pain or discomfort during blood sample collection. No significant psychological, social, or economic risks are anticipated. Participation is voluntary and will not affect medical care or social status.
Participants may benefit from free laboratory testing and early detection of lipid abnormalities. The study will provide valuable data to improve malaria management and public health strategies, benefiting the wider community through better diagnosis and prevention.
